Yeah, but …
Conversations with married friends will usually turn to the children we have. There seems to be much fear in many of these conversations regarding the children’s choices in relationships and choices in their lives in general. To some I am able to ask, “What does God Promise regarding our children?”
“Yeah, but” is a very common answer I receive.
Yeah, but the school they are at is secular, or
Yeah, but my child just has such resistance to the Lord right now, or
Yeah, but my children aren’t in church anymore, or
Yeah, but my child just wants to fight against me and everything I stand for at this time in their life, or
Yea, but the world and temptation is just so strong I’m really afraid that they will fall away from the Lord.
Many fears fly through the minds of parents and many fears are spoken of when the topic of their children arise.
When I am able, my next question to Christian friends is, “Are you actually Born Again?”
“Of course” is always the answer.
“But why do you believe that?”
“Because I believe in Jesus.”
“But didn’t you sin just today? Or yesterday? Or at least last week? Why then are you so certain that you are Born Again?”
“Because it’s not based on whether I sin or not. God said He would forgive me when I sin.”
“Oh, God SAID!” I reply. “But, didn’t God also SAY He would circumcise the hearts of your children? {Deut 30:6} Didn’t God also SAY His righteousness would remain with your children and even their children {Psalm 103:17} if you would continue in covenant with God? Didn’t God SAY your children would be mighty on this Earth? {Psalm 112:2}”
“But that’s different. They have the choice to walk with God or not. God can’t over-ride their wills”.
“So you are choosing to believe that your children will refuse God and walk in the ways of the world and go to hell?”
“Well, I don’t want to believe that. I’m just afraid the world will get hold of them.”
“So you CHOOSE fear versus faith. For yourself you choose FAITH in God’s Word that you are forgiven and Born Again. But for your children you choose fear over faith, and believe the world and satan will win the battle?”
The conversations twist and turn from there, but the main point is always the same: which do we CHOOSE … fear or faith?
Yeah the Word says that, BUT
We must learn to drop the “buts”, choose to drop the fear, and choose to believe God at His Word … even for our children. Even for our marriages. Even for our finances. Even for the seemingly uncorrectable body ailments.
We must determine to CHOOSE to believe God’s Word and aggressively command fear and doubt to leave.
Just do it … like Nike says
Just choose God’s Word over satan’s words.
Satan couldn’t keep you from becoming Born Again, once you chose to believe God’s Word for forgiveness and salvation, and satan can’t stop God’s Words from taking root AND bearing fruit in all the other circumstances in your life once you CHOOSE to believe God’s Word for those situations either!
For God has exalted His Word to a place that is even higher than His very own name! (Psalm 138:2, KJV).
And what God has said, He is watching over to see that it accomplishes in the Believer’s life exactly what He said it would accomplish!
Hallelujah!
